Arvindasavam, also spelled Aravindasava, is a traditional Ayurvedic medicine that falls under the Arishta category and is primarily indicated as a digestive tonic for newborns and children. It chiefly stimulates hunger, boosts physical and mental prowess and promotes the child's optimum growth and development. It is also advised in paediatric cases for the treatment of all forms of children's health problems or ailments.

How To Prepare To Arvindasavam?

Ingredients:

40 grams each of:

Nelumbo Nucifera – Kamal (Lotus) flowers  

Vetiveria Zizanioides – Vetiver (Ushira)  

Gmelina Arborea – Gambhari (Beechwood)  

Nymphaea Stellata – Neel Kamal (Blue water lily)  

Rubia Cordifolia – Manjistha roots  

Elettaria Cardamomum – Elaichi (Cardamom) seeds  

Sida Cordifolia – Bala roots  

Nardostachys Jatamansi – Jatamansi roots  

Cyperus Rotundus – Mustak  

Hemidesmus Indicus – Sariva roots  

Terminalia Chebula – Haritaki fruit rind  

Terminalia Bellerica – Bibhitaki fruit rind  

Acorus Calamus – Vacha roots  

Emblica Officinalis – Amalaki (Indian gooseberry)  

Glycyrrhiza Glabra -  Mulethi (Licorice)

Hedychium Spicatum – Shati (Spiked Ginger Lily) rhizome  

Indigofera Tinctoria – Neeli (True Indigo) roots  

Trichosanthes Dioica – Patola  

Fumaria Indica – Pitpapra (Shahtra)  

Terminalia Arjuna –  Arjuna stem bark  

Madhuca Indica – Madhuka flowers  

Selinum Tenuifolium – Mura  

800 grams Vitis Vinifera – Munakka (Raisins)

6 Woodfordia Fruticosa – Dhataki flowers

20 liters Water

4 Kg Sharkara (Brown Sugar or Sucrose Sugar)

2 Kg Honey or Madhu

Method:

Wash and sun-dry all of the ingredients, then powder them individually.

Sieve them to eliminate the contaminants.

Soak powdered ingredients in water overnight.

Add jaggery and honey to the clear decoction and stir to combine completely.

Pour the decoction into a wide-mouthed asava bowl, coated with honey from inside.

Add the remaining powdered aromatic herbs to the filtrate, and close the opening of the container with a mud-smeared towel.

Leave the vessel untouched in the fermentation room for 30 days.

Once the fermentation process is finished after 30 days, strain the fermented liquid through a clean muslin cloth to remove contaminants.

Store the formulation in amber-coloured, airtight containers to encourage maturation and future usage.
