So, What Exactly Is Sallow Skin?
Sallow skin can be defined as a type of condition where your skin has lost its natural radiance and complexion and turned pale, yellowish or brownish. Sallow skin is often misconstrued as olive skin. But while olive skin is considered natural and healthy, sallow skin looks more dull, tired and sickening.
Although the characteristics of sallow skin are similar to that of ageing skin, i.e. increasing dryness, wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes and thinness, but it can actually happen at any age and even in the early twenties and is mostly due to an underlying health condition.
What Are The Causative Factors Of Sallow Skin?
Sallow skin can happen due to both external and internal factors. Let’s know more about these underlying health anomalies:
Nutrient deficiency: A deficiency of vital nutrients like Vitamins A, C, E, K and B12 and minerals can make your skin look sallow and wrinkled by interfering with the healthy functioning of the body cells. Also Read: 7 Ultimate Vitamins To Nourish Your Skin And Hair
Anaemia: This health condition restricts the distribution of oxygen to the body cells and interferes in the cell regeneration process, thus making the skin look pale and yellowish. Also Read: Anemia: 5 Awesome Natural Remedies To Boost Your Iron Levels
Stress: This affects both physical and mental well-being. A stressed body releases cortisol which causes weight gain or loss, lack of sleep, and dry and sallow skin
Sleeplessness: Lack of sleep can also take a toll on the skin by preventing normal repair and regeneration, thus making the skin look dull and aged.
Smoking: This unhealthy habit also causes premature skin ageing ultimately leading to a lustre-less complexion.
How To Manage Sallow Skin?
Although some of the factors like nutrient deficiency or anaemia can be improved by having a healthy diet and consuming fruits and vegetables, factors like smoking needs to be stopped slowly to improve skin health. Even stress and sleeplessness can also be managed with a change in the sedentary lifestyle and taking proper care of the skin.
