It is no big secret that dogs love summertime. Well, most of them do and they enjoy their long walks and get to play more. Winters aren't their season per se and all they can do is sleep in cold weather. But when the temperatures start to get extremely high, our furry friends may also get uncomfortable.

They may suffer from allergies or other respiratory conditions that get aggravated due to extreme weather. A good diet, exercise, and undisturbed sleep are essential for a dog’s health. Thus, letting them sleep in an air-conditioned room becomes inevitable during such times. Most dogs love an excellent air-conditioning environment. And why not? Air conditioners provide much-needed relief from the summer heat to pets as much as it does to humans. Besides, it keeps them away from summer-borne illnesses.

Can You Allow Your Dog To Be In Your AC Room?

The million-dollar question! Can the dog sleep in the AC Room with their human friend? The answer is indeed based on very basic logic. If the dog and the master are in pink health, there is no reason that your pet should not sleep in your room. Of course, our advice is preferably on the floor or on his little bed and not next to you. While many people love to cuddle with their pets, it is best to let them be in their own space for most of the night. The only concern is how much the pet likes to be in an air-conditioned environment because most dogs do not like the idea of being in AC unless the temperature is enormously high.

Tips To Keep Pets In Your AC Room

Here are some good things and some harmful effects when four-legged shares an AC room with you. Follow these tips which will help both of you stay happy and healthy:

  • The room should have ample ventilation sources and some space for the pet to curl up someplace if it gets too cold
  • If your dog is panting, it implies they are getting dehydrated. Keep water at the pet’s disposal and increase the temperature of the AC unit
  • As a natural response, dogs will try to generate heat.  Help your pet by placing a blanket around their bed to give them extra warmth
  • With an acute sense of smell, the dry air from an AC can irritate the dog’s nose and cause allergies. If your dog is sneezing and getting uncomfortable while the AC is on, try raising the temperature by a few degrees. If they are off to sleep, they are fine
Pets in AC room
  • Dogs carry intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks that can cause illnesses in humans. Sleeping with a dog increases human exposure to these pathogens and may cause vector-borne diseases. If the dog has been infested with ticks or fleas it is advisable to make the pet sleep in a different room for some days
  • Take utmost care of pet hygiene, give them regular baths with medicated pet shampoos
  • Visit the veterinarian for regular check-ups and pet vaccinations. Use preventive flea and tick treatments. The better your dog’s health, the better it is for your wellness too.

The Bottomline

There is no denying that sharing the room with your dog can be a stress buster. But if the cold air coming from the AC is disliked by your dog and making him or her sleep outside AC is not a good idea, with a little patience, tactics, and making them accustomed, slowly your dog will get used to the cold environment and prefer staying inside the cold comfy room.
