Want to hear a 'beauty' story? Read again, please. A 'beauty story'. Well, then let me take you back to my early teenage years. It was a typical day at school, during a break between classes. My best friend, with a big smile on her face, confidently walked into the classroom. Everyone's eyes were instantly drawn to her glowing skin. She didn’t miss the chance to boast a little, playfully tilting her head so the light would catch her perfectly.

Of course, curiosity got the best of me. "What’s your secret?" I asked, unable to hide my intrigue. After some gentle prodding, she finally spilled the beans with a twinkle in her eye: Multani Mitti. Mitti? You mean mud? Yes, she confirmed with that same sparkle. Well, that’s when I knew I had to find out more.

I rushed to my grandmother, eager to learn this so-called beauty secret. My Daadi, with her silver hair in a neat bun and glasses perched on her nose, chuckled and nodded. She got some Multani Mitti—known as Fuller’s Earth in English—from the local shop. Sitting in our vast courtyard, she carefully mixed it with rose water, turmeric, and milk, creating a paste that looked almost magical. As she applied it to my face, she shared stories of how this ancient remedy had been used for generations to achieve glowing, flawless skin.

For those of us who grew up with these traditional “daadi ke nuskes” (grandmother’s tips), such remedies were always the go-to for any beauty concern. Her tales, full of wisdom and affection, turned Fuller's Earth into more than just a beauty treatment—it became a treasured ritual connecting me to my roots.

Now, my 3-year-old daughter is already familiar with Multani Mitti. She loves dipping her fingers into this natural wonder and getting a bit messy, and I don’t mind at all. She may have years ahead before trying out face packs, but the goodness of Fuller’s Earth will continue to be a cherished part of our family’s legacy.
