Scarlet fever or scaraltina refers to a bacterial infection that can cause high temperature along with bright red rashes all over the body. Children between the age group 5-15 years are more likely to develop scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is caused by Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria.
The toxins released from the bacteria lead to the formation of red rashes on the skin and also cause sore throat and fever. It is a contagious fever and is spread from an infected person to the healthy ones via air droplets.
Scarlet fever if left untreated can affect heart, nerves and skin. The other associated complications are pneumonia, sinusitis and infection of ear and throat.

Doctors diagnose scarlet fever based on the signs and symptoms. A throat swab may help in diagnosing the root cause of bacteria.
Treatment of scarlet fever includes the use of antibiotics for treating bacterial infection. Complete dosage of the antibiotics should be taken to avoid any further complications associated with the condition.
Personal hygienic practices like regular washing of hands, covering the mouth during a sneeze can prevent this contagious condition.
