With India recording more than 1300 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of active cases to 7,026, there is a sense of anxiety gripping the medical fraternity and the general public alike.
In a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on March 22, the government officials reviewed the current COVID situation and urged public health preparedness. According to the Union Health Ministry, the daily positivity is at 1.46 percent, with weekly positivity pegged at 1.08 percent. Though the recovery rate stands at 98.79 percent, the general public is urged to follow all Covid protocols to prevent further infection transmission and the mutation of new variants.
If you wonder what makes this virus so deadly, here’s a brief introduction. First discovered in 1960, Coronavirus got the name Corona as the virus resembles the shape of a crown. Highly transmissible, similar to that of various cold-causing viruses through droplets of the infected persons while coughing, sneezing, touching, and sharing personal items, this zoonotic virus can significantly affect lung health.
