Acne also called acne vulgaris is an annoying skin condition that results in pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and scarring in the face. It occurs when the hair follicles are filled up with oil and dead skin cells. It mostly affects the areas of the skin where there are more oil glands including the face, upper region of the chest and back.
Acne is quite common among older children and adolescents going through puberty, where the hormonal changes can cause oil glands to secrete more oil. Evidence strongly recommends that following a healthy diet can avert and cure acne. There are a few nutrients that are believed to lessen acne which include complex carbohydrates, zinc, vitamins A, E, antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids.
