A headache is a very common problem that causes pain and uneasiness in head, neck and scalp.
Headaches are mostly mild, but in rare cases, it can cause extreme pain that makes it tough to concentrate on work and difficult in functioning your day to day activities.
Some of the common headaches include migraine, cluster and tension headaches.
Luckily you can ease those haunting headaches without going to a physician or popping a pill, just by trying some of these easy and effective ways and feel better.
Cold Pack
To get relief from a migraine placing a cold pack on your forehead works well. Try wrapping ice cubes in a towel or a taking a cold shower may reduce the pain. Keep the cold compress on your head for 15 minutes and take a break for the next 15 minutes. Repeat till your headache subsides.
Hot Compress
A tension headache is best relieved by placing a heating pad on your neck or the back of your head. A sinus headache can be treated by holding a warm cloth on the area that is painful. A warm shower will also help.
Lessen The Head Pressure
Some external compressions can cause a headache such as - your ponytail if it is too high, wearing a hat, headband, or even your swimming goggles that are too tight. Several studies prove that women who don’t tie their hair tightly suffer from fewer headaches.
Dim The Lights
The bright light from your laptop or computer screen can cause migraine headaches. Covering your windows with blackout curtains during the day and using sunglasses while going outdoor will help. Add anti-glare screens to your computer and laptop that helps to fix the issue.
Don’t Clench Your Jaws
If you have the habit of clenching your jaw tight, or constantly chewing or grinding your teeth, you could end up with a headache. Try and suck on something instead – like a candy or a lozenge.
Beat The Stress
Practicing some simple stretches, yoga, meditation, relaxation, will all help you to calm down when you’re experiencing a severe headache. Massaging your neck and temple is also very helpful in beating the stress. Go for expert advice about the available physical therapy if your muscle spasm has still not eased out.
Adequate hydration is very important as headache is one of the signs of severe dehydration. So, try and drink at least 8- 10 glasses of water in a day to keep yourself hydrated and prevent headaches.
