Tamil New Year or Puthandu is the first day of the year according to Tamil calendar and it falls on April 14, annually. The same day is also celebrated as Vishu for Keralites, Bihu for Assamese, Baishakhi for Punjabis and as Pohela Boishakh in West Bengal.
