Prickly Heat or Heat rash is an itchy patch of tiny red spots that feel prickly on the skin. It might also cause a deep stinging sensation. It usually disappears after a few days and requires topical treatments. - It can develop anywhere on the body, but usually seen on the face, chest, back and thighs.
- Caused by blocked sweat glands, when a person sweats more than normal.
- Over production of sweat could be due to
- Extremely Humid weather or because a person wears too many clothes that traps the sweat, producing the rash.
Symptoms - Itching
- Patch of small red spots
- Mild swelling
- Prickling or burning sensation
Treatment - Take a bath in cold water to cool the skin and help prevent sweating further.
- Apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to soothe the itchy, stinging feeling
- Wear loose cotton clothing, as cotton doesn't retain as much heat as synthetic clothes made from nylon and polyester do
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration
Avoid - Excessive heat or humidity
- Stay out of the sun, preferably indoors
- Do not sit too close to the stove in a kitchen or any heat source, such as machinery
- Apply powder specially formulated for Prickly Heat to soothing itching & to absorb excess sweat
