Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s Mental Hai Kya has faced wrath of the Indian Psychiatric Society with doctors expressing concerns over the film’s discriminating teaser against those battling various mental problems.

In a letter written to the Censor Board, the Indian Psychiatric Society objected to the title, the depiction of main characters calling it stigmatizing, discriminative, degrading and inhuman in projecting mental disorders and persons who suffer from mental disorders.

Adding further, the doctors expressed concern that many people suffering from mental disorders do not come forward and seek treatment as psychological problems are still considered a stigma in our society.

And the doctors are right. Filmy or non-filmy, the importance of mental health is largely ignored. Mental disorders are like physical ailments and they need expert attention, counselling and medications.
