Earlier popcorn was just salted and buttered, but now it is available in a range of flavours, be it cheesy, spicy, tangy and even chocolate.

Loaded with generous amounts of fibre, vitamin B1, B3, B6, magnesium, potassium, zinc and copper, popcorn is low on fat, high on nutrition snack, which is very easy to make at home.

Dry corn kernels are easily available in any grocery shop or supermarket. Try these flavours to make your popcorn pop!

Masala Popcorn

Masala popcorn is a blend of spices and butter perfectly tossed into a tasty and crunchy snack.

Ingredients

1 cup dry corn kernels

Salt to taste

A pinch of turmeric powder

¼ tsp red chilli powder

¼ tsp chat masala

1 tbsp butter

Method

Heat a deep bottom non-stick pan, in a bowl take dry corn kernels, add butter and blend well and then transfer into the hot pan.

Now add salt, turmeric, red chilli powder and mix well. Close it with a lid, allow corn to splutter and pop.

When all the corn has popped completely, sprinkle chat masala and toss.

Serve immediately with a drizzle of butter.

Caramel Popcorn

A crunchy treat with the enjoyably rich flavour and taste of caramel, this flavour is popular with kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

1 cup dry corn kernels

½ cup brown sugar

2 tbsp butter

Method

In a heavy-bottomed pan, melt butter and add dry corn kernels and sauté it well for few seconds.

Cover the pressure cooker with lid, but do not close it completely and cook on a medium flame until all the corn pops up.

In a pan add brown sugar, add very little water and caramelize it well, switch off the flame, add the popcorn and blend it well until all the corn kernels are coated.

Adding a pinch of salt, highlights the sweetness of the caramel popcorn.
