Haemorrhoids also known as piles are a collection of inflamed tissue in the anal canal. Piles can appear in various sizes and are located both internally and externally. Many people have piles, but symptoms are not felt in all cases. Piles are graded on a scale from I to IV and these inflamed tissues at the grade III and IV may require a surgery. Symptoms include a hard, painful lump around the anus, bright red blood vessel after a bowel movement and pain while passing stools. Diagnosis is done by physical examination.
